George and Gareth, Ocean Kave, Wedding – 2nd September 2016

When George asked me to be her wedding photographer I was delighted. 5 years ago I photographed George’s brother’s wedding, so its always lovely to be invited back by a family.

On the morning of the wedding I joined George and her bridal party at George’s house in Great Torrington, in North Devon. The atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful, I could tell we were in for a great day. The weather forecast was suggesting heavy rain for the morning and we got just that! Photographically rain is not a problem and in certain cases can add a bit of drama to your images.

The couple’s wedding ceremony took place in St Michael’s Church in Great Torrington. On arrival I went to find Gareth who by now was in the good company of his brother, the best man. Gareth was looking slightly nervous sat in the first pew close to where he would soon be tying the knot. We waited patiently for the arrival of George and her bridesmaids. George looked absolutely stunning as she stepped out of the bridal car with her bridesmaids attentively sheltering her from the rain under pure white umbrellas.

After a very traditional wedding ceremony the guests showered the bride and groom at the gate of the church before heading off the reception at Ocean Kave at Westward Ho! This was the first time I’d had the pleasure to shoot at Ocean Kave. It’s a stunning location with immediate views over the Bristol Channel. Five minutes walk away down the cliff path and you are on the beach.

With the Pimms and cocktails flowing it was time to round people up for the wedding breakfast. Closely followed by some witty, heartfelt and emotional speeches. By now we were approaching ‘golden hour’, the sun was beginning to set. The lighting was soft and there was a glimmer of a sunset. So I encouraged the bride and groom back out into the ground once more for some couple photographs.

I was on duty again for the first dance where Richard’s Time Machine provided the entertainment. Richard was clearly fanatical about his part in the George and Gareth’s wedding day. He actively encouraged all of the guests to encircle the dance floor, where he proceeded to fire them up ready for the grand arrival of the Bride and Groom for their first dance. It wasn’t long before the guests joined in on the dance floor. Making for some great dance action shots!

I had a terrific day with George and Gareth on their wedding day, such a great couple to work with. I hope you enjoy the images above as much as I enjoyed capturing them.
