Robyn and Joe, The Barn South Milton Wedding – 11 th July 2015

Robyn and Joe’s choice of wedding venue was The Barn in South Milton. It was the first time I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at The Barn and I was really looking forward to it. The beach is only a 10 minute walk away and the surroundings of The Barn make for an idyllic country setting wedding. There is a house on site for the bride to stay the night before and prepare for her big day, which is where I met with Robyn on the day of her wedding. Between the house and the Barn itself is a large field which was full of Robyn and Joe’s camping guests. Many had travelled down from London during the preceding week and you could feel the party atmosphere on arrival.

The weather was glorious which meant the planned outdoor ceremony was able to go ahead. The backdrop to the ceremony was rolling hills and colourful fields all guiding you effortlessly towards the coastline and on into the rich blue sea of the English Channel, far reaching off to the horizon.

Robyn and Joe’s wedding day was unique. The ceremony itself was a break from convention with a callings to ‘earth, wind, air and fire’, jumping over yew sticks, poetry and readings, and a very usual exchanging of the rings! The ‘Bard’ who conducted the ceremony was a little late arriving because he had stopped at the nearest church to find a yew stick and make himself a laurel headdress. The guests loved the whole ceremony and I’m sure they will be talking about it for years.

The speeches were the perfect opportunity for the best man (Joe’s brother) to shine! He thrilled the guests with a rendition of Tina Turner’s hit ‘Simply the Best……..man’ accompanied by the bridesmaids for backing singers and dancers!

The food was provided by a local Pie and Mash supplier Tom Pies  who I must say makes fantastic pies that are not to be missed. Many strive to be different on their wedding day but I have to say Robyn and Joe achieved it. It was my pleasure to photograph Robyn and Joe’s wedding day, thank you for inviting me to be a part of it.
