Your Photoshoot Prep Guide
Everything you need to feel prepared, relaxed, and looked after. Studio details, what to bring, outfit planning, and exactly what to expect on the day.
Quick note before we begin
You’ve already done the hard part by booking this in. The rest is easy, because I’ll guide you through every pose, every detail, every step. This guide just makes sure you arrive feeling ready… and leave feeling unstoppable.
“I was so nervous before I arrived, but within minutes Pete made me feel completely at ease. I couldn’t believe how relaxed I became.”
1. Studio location
Your shoot takes place at Future Image Studios, Plymouth. I’ll send your exact shoot time separately, but here’s the location and how to arrive without stress.
Future Image Studios, 6 Mary Seacole Road, Plymouth PL1 3JY
2. Parking
Parking
You can park right outside / immediately nearby so you’re not trekking in carrying bags.
If you arrive early, text me and I’ll come out for you.
3. What’s inside the studio
A private space built for confidence and killer lighting. You’ll have room to change, a makeup station, mirrors, a toilet, and a calm setup where we can take our time and get the details right. Most people relax fast once they realise it’s just you, me, and a plan.
4. What to bring
The right outfit choices elevate a shoot from good to exceptional. Bring options. Variety gives us flexibility, and flexibility gives us stronger images. The more thought you put into this part, the more powerful the final collection becomes.
Essentials for Everyone
– Water and a small snack (especially if you’re dieting or cutting)
– Sliders or easy footwear between sets
– Oversized jumper, robe or hoodie to stay warm between lighting changes
– Any meaningful item you’d like subtly woven into the shoot
– Confidence. You’ve already done the hard part by showing up.
If you’re unsure about anything, send me photos of your options 7–10 days before your shoot and I’ll guide you. Small refinements here make a significant difference to the final result.
Female outfit suggestions
– Gym sets: leggings, fitted shorts or tights with a bra top or crop
– Layered looks: oversized knit, leather jacket, ripped jeans, partner’s shirt
– Lingerie sets (neutral tones photograph beautifully)
– Bodysuits or statement pieces
– Heels, boots or barefoot depending on the mood
– Jewellery or subtle accessories to elevate the look
Think in terms of contrast. Strong athletic lines in one set. Soft, feminine energy in another. Variety gives us range.
Male outfit suggestions
– Fitted tee or sleeveless vest
– Zipped hoodie or layered top
– Clean gym shorts or tailored joggers
– Posing trunks (for competitors)
– Bare torso options if physique is the focus
– Watch or minimal accessories
Bring at least two strong variations. One athletic and structured. One relaxed and understated.
“I was anxious about having my photo taken, but Pete was brilliant and made sure I felt at ease. I would highly recommend him.”
5. Outfit planning feedback
Outfit planning (this makes the shoot 10x better)
About 10 days before your shoot, send me quick photos of what you’re thinking (laid out on the bed is perfect).
I’ll help you choose what will photograph best and I can match backdrops and lighting to your colours.
If your package has a set number of outfits, we stick to it, but we’ll choose them smartly.
6. Grooming + tan
Tanning
If you’re planning to tan before your shoot, a professional spray tan photographs beautifully under studio lighting. It enhances muscle definition and gives skin a healthy, even tone on camera.
I regularly recommend:
- Muscle & Wax – experienced in preparing clients specifically for photoshoots and physique work.
Book your tan 24–48 hours before your shoot to allow it to settle naturally.
Hair & Makeup
Professional hair and makeup can elevate the overall finish of your images, particularly for empowerment sessions or more styled looks.
I often work with:
- Chloe Jane MUA – makeup artistry suited to fitness and empowerment shoots.
- Adele Wedding Hair – polished hair styling for studio-ready finishes.
You’re completely welcome to organise your own artists or arrive ready to shoot — these are simply trusted professionals I know work well under studio lighting.
7. What to expect on the day
We start easy. The first set is a warm-up while you settle in. I’ll show you the back of the camera early so you can see what I’m seeing, and that’s usually the moment it clicks: “Is that really me?”
From there it builds fast. I’ll direct clearly, tweak the details, and keep it moving so you get variety without it feeling rushed.
8. Send me your outfits
Reply to this email (or message me on Instagram) with a photo of your outfit choices about 10 days before, and I’ll help you choose the strongest looks.
Final Notes
Preparation creates confidence. Confidence creates presence. Presence creates powerful images.
