Sharon & Darcy Kitley House Wedding 29th December 2013
Sharon and Darcy chose Kitley House to have their beautiful winter wedding. The house was still resplendent from Christmas and this just added to the warm and friendly atmosphere which I would experience throughout the day.
Sharon and Darcy had traveled 10,000 miles from Australia to be with their family and friends to celebrate their special day. Some of the guests had even made the trip with them.
The morning of the wedding was cold and frosty but the sun was shining and the sky was fantastically clear. The bride was in her boudoir with her close friend, the amazing Make-up artist Sarah Bennett MUA and the equally fabulous hair stylist Paul Roberts.
As a photographer, photographing winter weddings can be a challenge throughout the day. The lack of natural light means you have to have your wits about you and be prepared. The unpredictable nature of the UK’s weather is generally not on your side either. I have probably mentioned it before, but for many reasons ‘I love winter weddings’, Seasonal décor gives your wedding a unique touch. Old manor houses like Kitley House have log fires burning and the ambiance is simply magical. However natural light fades very quickly so you have to know how to make the most of your photography.
Sharon and Darcy’s ceremony was a memorable occasion with Sharon making an entrance to remember and Darcy fumbling his vows in his own unique way. After that it was time for a quick drink and then outside to take the group photographs while we still had some day light. I try to get the formals taken as quick as possible especially at this time of year because while it was momentarily sunny it was only 40C.
It was time to get everyone back into the warm to have the wedding breakfast. The speeches were very emotional and endearing. By now it was time for the first dance and then on for some more winter wedding couple portraits inside and outside (but not for very long!!).
