Cornish Cider Run 2017

Another year and another Cornish Cider Run. Well not quite, this year the Cornish Cider Run had found a new home. The stunning and very Cornish Bocconoc House and gardens.

The venue – Boconnoc House and Gardens, Cornwall

Boconnoc is a country estate in South East Cornwall tucked down two miles of private roads. In particular the main house and grounds are available to hire for anything from a candle-lit dinner for two, to a house party for 18 guests not to mention a wedding or party for up to 240 guests. Or more importantly a 10KM obstacle course race. The event was spread over the vast grounds of the estate. The course had over 40 obstacles and some absolutely stunning scenery how could anyone fail to enjoy themselves.

The Organisers – DB Fitness and Nutrition

This was the 5th Obstacle course race organised by DB Fitness and Nutrition. From the beginning the event promised to be the biggest yet consequently the nearing 500 competitors ensured it was exactly that.

The course designed by DB Fitness and Nutrition Director and ex Royal Marine, Dean Burchell challenged even the toughest competitor. However, it was not essential to be a fitness enthusiast to compete. Reassuringly, provided you don’t mind a bit of mud and water, then a sense of humour and positive attitude is all you needed to get round!

The Race

The torrential rain leading up to the event ensured that all of the water obstacles were well topped up. In fact by the start of the race many of the smaller streams had now become running rivers and puddles had become lakes!

The eventual winners had battled around some fantastically designed obstacles on race day. Notwithstanding the lack of sunshine they still made it around in a little over 1 hour. Before returning back to Boconnoc’s courtyard to be greeted by Disco Dave, who is as much a part of the event as the run itself.

Significantly photographing the Cornish Cider Run has become a bit of a tradition for me now. This year however I managed to clock up just over 10KM myself. In spite of all that water I was still able to get around the course. Often in the hope that I would capture another competitor spectacularly taking a tumble into a pile of cow dung.

A Great Event

All that remains is for me to say a very well done to all of the competitors. Finally, DB fitness team and all of their volunteers – You organised a very slick event and you should be very proud, your efforts were appreciated by all.

Below are a few of my favourite images from the day. If you would like to see all of the images, follow this link PETE BENNETT CORNISH CIDER RUN 2017 and use the access code CCR2017.
